Build the list around services and workstations

An auto repair shop equipment list should begin with the services the business will sell, the vehicles it expects and the number of working bays. A small general-service shop, a tire and alignment centre, and a body-repair workshop need different machines, tools, utilities and floor space.

Use the checklist below to define the purchasing scope before requesting quotations. It is a planning framework rather than a fixed package: final models, brands, capacities, accessories, quantities and availability must be confirmed for the project.

General repair bay: lifting, support and daily tools

Start with the vehicle lift only after confirming maximum vehicle weight, wheelbase, lifting points, floor structure, bay height and operating clearance. Two-post, scissor and other lift types serve different vehicles and workflows; rated capacity alone does not establish suitability.

  • Vehicle lift selected for the confirmed vehicle range and site conditions.
  • Approved lifting pads or adapters, axle stands, wheel chocks and suitable jacks.
  • Mechanic tool set, torque tools, sockets, pullers and service-specific hand tools.
  • Oil collection and fluid-handling equipment appropriate to the planned services.
  • Work bench, lighting, tool storage, compressed-air drops and electrical outlets.
  • Model-specific installation drawing, anchoring or foundation requirements and operating manual.

Tire service bay: machine range and accessories must match

A tire changer and wheel balancer should be selected as a working pair for the intended rim sizes, tire types and daily workload. Ask for the operating range and included accessories of each exact model. A passenger-car setup does not automatically cover heavy-duty truck tires or every low-profile and run-flat application.

  • Tire changer with confirmed rim and tire range, clamping method and included protectors.
  • Wheel balancer with confirmed wheel range, cones, adaptors and lifting aids where required.
  • Inflation equipment, tyre-pressure gauge, bead tools, wheel-weight tools and consumables.
  • Air compressor capacity and clean, dry compressed-air distribution matched to the machines.
  • Safe storage areas for wheels, accessories and frequently used consumables.

Wheel alignment bay: plan the complete measurement station

The alignment machine is only one part of the bay. The lift or platform arrangement, turntables, rear slip plates, vehicle approach, working clearance and calibration space must operate together. Confirm that the lift configuration and accessories support the intended alignment process.

Provide the supplier with the bay dimensions and planned vehicle range. Ask for the alignment-machine installation layout, target or camera clearances, computer and power requirements, calibration procedure and the included clamps or adaptors.

Paint and body area: equipment must be planned as a system

A paint and body-repair area may include a spray booth, preparation zone, welding and dent-repair equipment, sanding and dust extraction, body measuring or straightening equipment, compressed air and suitable personal protective equipment. The equipment list depends on the repair scope and local rules.

For a spray booth, coordinate the foundation or platform, electrical supply, heating configuration, intake and exhaust routes, drainage, fire and environmental requirements, and the surrounding material flow. Certification must match the exact supplied model and configuration; a certificate logo alone is not enough.

Tools, storage and safety items belong in the same quotation

Major machines cannot operate efficiently without the correct hand tools, adapters, jacks, stands, storage and utility connections. List these items by workstation and separate included accessories from optional or locally sourced items.

For every tool cabinet or tool set, request a drawer-level or piece-level list. A total piece count does not show sizes, materials, drive types or duplicate items. Safety equipment, inspection intervals and local compliance requirements should be defined by qualified local professionals.

Utilities and site works checklist

Record the local voltage, phase and frequency, available electrical capacity, compressed-air pressure and delivery, water and drainage points, exhaust routes, floor thickness and condition, finished ceiling height and vehicle access. Mark every connection on the workshop plan.

Do not start foundations, pits, trenches or exhaust openings from a general catalogue image. Use the approved drawing for the exact equipment model and configuration, reviewed by the site engineer or other qualified local professional.

Turn the checklist into an itemised project quotation

The quotation should list model, quantity, confirmed capacity or range, included accessories, optional accessories, utilities, documents, packing dimensions, net and gross weight, warranty terms for the exact product, readiness status and excluded items. This makes competing offers easier to compare and reduces missing components at installation.

BAOHUA helps new automotive repair workshops source equipment and tools as a coordinated package. We can coordinate consolidated shipment for the agreed order after configurations, packing and readiness are confirmed. Freight method, loading arrangement, destination handling, delivery terms and timing remain order-specific.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment does a new auto repair shop need first?

Start with equipment and tools for the confirmed opening-day services: suitable lifting and support equipment, essential hand and torque tools, fluid-handling items, storage, utilities and safety items. Add tire, alignment or body-repair stations only when they are part of the initial service plan.

Should tire changers and wheel balancers be ordered as a package?

They can be coordinated, but each model still needs its own confirmed rim and wheel range, accessories, utility requirements and workload suitability.

What is commonly missing from workshop equipment quotations?

Common omissions include adapters, jacks, stands, air-line items, electrical requirements, installation materials, calibration items, consumables, packing data, documentation and clearly listed exclusions.

Can one checklist work for passenger cars and trucks?

No fixed checklist covers every vehicle class. Capacities, dimensions, wheel ranges, bay clearances, lifting points, foundations and tools must be matched to the intended vehicles.

What should a buyer send before requesting a complete quotation?

Send the service scope, vehicle types and weights, bay layout and clearances, local power, compressed air, drainage and exhaust information, quantities, accessories, destination, purchasing phase and target delivery period.
